Job Title: Employment Specialist PARTTIME/TEMPORARY 

Department: OHCDC/TRI-C Access Center

Supervisor: Program Director

General Job Description: 

The Employment Specialist will be responsible for assisting the organization’s staff with matching job program applicants to a specific job skills training or employment opportunity that best suits their education, skills, and interests. The Employment Specialist will also work alongside staff leadership while engaging with partner agencies and potential employers to establish trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of providing competitive employment opportunities in community job settings. They will work to help match job openings to qualified candidates from within the organization’s pool of training program participants, adult learners, and job placement referrals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Employment Specialist will help to assist clients, adult learners, and training program participants in obtaining relevant information about available job openings to ensure they make informed decisions during the application process. The Employment Specialist will also help assess the candidates’ previous vocational history by utilizing background information and previous work experiences. The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Matching program participants and graduates of job skills training to available job openings and opportunities

  • Assisting with monitoring job retention rate for all partnering agencies and employers

  • Working with employers to understand their organizational needs and job requirements

  • Working with candidates to assess and analyze their skill set to determine skills training and professional development needs

  • Helping to administer skills assessment tests to training participants and potential applicants

  • Assisting, when needed, with conducting mock interviews

  • Helping to review, revise, or update candidate resumes to successfully submit to employers

  • Helping to recommend appropriate job skills training or educational tracts to potential job candidates

  • Conducting consistent job search activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests, skills, and abilities of the candidates on his/her caseload

  • Providing individualized follow-along support to assist clients in maintaining employment

  • Participate in weekly organizational staff meetings with key leadership to communicate, coordinate, and help integrate vocational services

Qualitative Requirements

The Employment Specialist should have an analytical mindset. The Employment Specialist must possess a variety of skills that will enable them to fulfill their responsibilities effectively as demonstrated through proven experience as a coordinator and field agent of the organization.

Educational and Skills Requirements 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Very strong organizational skills

  • Effective resume, skills, and education assessment skills

  • Ability to match candidates with available job openings

  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office suite

  • Ability to collaborate with employers and candidates and work well in a team environment

  • Ability to work individually and complete multiple assigned tasks is essential
